Data & Reporting

Travel emissions data you can build on.

Consolidate fragmented travel data into one baseline for cost and carbon - solid enough to set once rather than restate next year, with every figure traceable to the trip behind it. The foundation for credible reporting, targeted savings, and effective action.

A short call about your travel programme, and an honest view of what RouteZero would find in it. No obligation.

How it works

From raw data to reliable emissions, automatically

RouteZero handles the full pipeline - ingestion, cleaning, auditing, enrichment, and analysis - so the figures arrive ready to use, without the manual work landing on your team.

01

Ingest

Data from every available source is consolidated and standardised, whatever format it arrived in - booking tools, expense systems, card transactions, car hire.

Rows read30,467Sources5
02

Clean

Duplicates, refunds and exchanges are reconciled, so your totals aren’t inflated by bookings that never flew or spend that was never travel. Every reconciliation traces back to its source row.

Duplicates consolidated1,821Fee-only records reconciled617Non-travel spend removed4,517Out-of-period rows excluded213
03

Audit

Quality assurance checks identify potential errors before figures are included in reporting, so a wrong number is caught here rather than after it has become the baseline you report against.

04

Enrich

Missing journey details are reconstructed from what the data does carry - flight numbers matched to published schedules, distances traced along the real route - and each journey then gets the most accurate emissions methodology its data supports.

Analyse

Travel is segmented by mode, route, office and reporting period to identify the greatest opportunities for emissions reduction - so you can see where your biggest cuts and savings actually are.

Data quality

Every booking checked. Every figure verified.

Automated, AI-assisted, and manual checks screen every booking - for duplicates, refunds logged as trips, flights that never flew, and misapplied factors - before any of it reaches a report. A wrong baseline is never one wrong number: every target, every reduction claim and every year-on-year comparison is measured against it, so restating it means restating all of them.

Methodology

Every booking measured by the most accurate method its data supports

When we know which flight someone took, we can work out the emissions from the fuel that aircraft burned. When all we have is a card payment, we can't be that precise - but the booking still gets the closest calculation its detail allows, rather than being dropped or lumped in with an average. Every figure is labelled with how it was worked out, so it isn't just the total that holds up - every number behind it does too.

Assurance

What you'll want to know before you present these numbers.

Where the figures come from, what they include, and what each one can be traced back to.

Reporting standard

GHG Protocol Scope 3, Category 6.

Emissions factors

Recognised published sets, matched to the year of travel rather than the latest available.

Coverage

Every booking counted, on the best basis its data supports, and counted the same way.

What's counted

Where we calculate from activity: all greenhouse gases, including producing the fuel (well-to-tank).

Flights

Flights we calculate carry radiative forcing - the extra warming at altitude.

Distances

The route travelled, rather than a straight line between origin and destination.

Audit trail

Every figure records the method behind it, and the source cell or stated assumption each input came from.

Methodology

A full methodology document accompanies every report.

The platform

Data turns scattered exports into a baseline you build once. Here's what comes next.

Each step builds on the last. Start wherever makes sense, and grow when you’re ready.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Carbon-accounting platforms tell you what your emissions were. RouteZero is built to act on them, cutting carbon and cost together. The audited baseline is the foundation, not the finished product: because every figure traces back to the individual trips behind it, you can model changes on real journeys and surface lower-carbon alternatives at the point of booking. Most of the organisations we work with already had dashboards and budgets. What they lacked was a way to turn the numbers into changes to the trips that create them.

Any format your booking provider supplies. CSV, Excel, PDF reports. RouteZero’s ingestion pipeline handles the parsing. If formats change between requests (which happens often), we adapt automatically.

An initial baseline is typically ready within a few weeks, depending on data complexity. Ongoing reporting is faster as the pipeline learns your data patterns. We handle provider communication so you are not waiting on back-and-forth.

We apply a governed hierarchy of recognised methodologies, selecting the most accurate approach each journey's data supports: Cirium for flight-level fuel burn, Green Travel Data for rail, and DEFRA conversion factors (the UK Government's published set) for car and hotel, with specialist sources such as Google Emissions APIs where the data allows. The method applied to each journey is recorded in its audit trail, matched to your reporting context.

RouteZero consolidates data across booking provider reports, expense systems, car hire providers, and hotel bookings into a single unified view. Overlapping datasets are deduplicated automatically.

Reports are aligned with the GHG Protocol, which classifies business travel as Scope 3 Category 6, and each includes a full methodology document covering emission factors, distance calculations, data reconciliation, sensitivity analysis, and known limitations. If your organisation has specific reporting requirements, we can work with you to tailor the output to match.

Every booking passes through automated audit checks: duplicate detection, mileage verification, emissions cross-validation, missing data periods, timeline completeness, and more. Issues are flagged and resolved before figures are finalised. Every reconciliation is traceable to its source.
