The opportunity

Sustainability as a competitive differentiator

Logicalis is a global IT solutions business with over 7,000 people across 30 territories. The Group leadership team had identified sustainability as a genuine opportunity for differentiation, not just internally, but with customers, investors, and partners like Cisco and Microsoft, who increasingly prioritise NetZero leadership.

Business travel was a significant contributor to Scope 3 emissions, specifically Category 6. With teams regularly travelling across 30 countries to serve clients, the volume of flights and ground transport added up quickly. But the leadership team recognised that cutting travel outright wasn't viable - customer relationships depend on face-to-face engagement, and a global services business needs its people on the ground.

The challenge was turning a genuine commitment to sustainability into measurable, credible action - reducing the environmental impact of travel without limiting the team's ability to meet customers and grow the business.

The solution

Data-driven policy, built on real trip data

In conjunction with a new sustainable travel policy, RouteZero delivered its analysis and policy tools to help the Group leadership team understand, measure, and report lower-carbon journeys. These ranged from domestic trips via a convenient public transport option to long-haul routes on the most efficient flight available that day.

The approach was grounded in Logicalis's actual travel data, not industry averages. RouteZero analysed historical booking patterns across the Group's 30 territories to identify where the biggest opportunities lay: which routes had viable rail alternatives, which flights could shift to more efficient carriers, and where small scheduling changes would yield outsized emission reductions.

Every policy recommendation was specific, defensible, and tailored to how Logicalis teams actually travel, making it straightforward for employees to adopt without disrupting their working patterns.

The result that surprised everyone

Logicalis didn't just cut emissions - they travelled more kilometres to meet more customers. Emissions fell by 42% and costs fell by 25%, while the business grew its reach. Optimising how people travel turned out to matter more than restricting whether they travel.

The focus on sustainability has categorically resulted in significant cost savings. Our emissions from travel have reduced 42% since we started the journey with RouteZero. And the cost of travel has also reduced significantly.
